Welcome to Year 5 and 6!

Class 7 - Mrs Youd/Mrs Nordberg

Class 8 -  Miss Woodall (Upper Key Stage 2 Leader)

Additional Year 5 and 6 teacher - Miss Huntington

On this page you will find all the information you or your child will need to help them keep up to date with Year 5 and 6 news.

Should you have any problems or concerns regarding your child, or would generally like more information, then please don’t hesitate to come in and see your child’s teacher.

We are very fortunate that we have some super support staff who work alongside our teachers in Upper Key Stage 2. They are Miss Davill, Mrs Hodder and Mrs Franks. They are supporting the children across the Upper Key Stage 2 classes. Mrs Fisher and Mrs Wilcox also teach Upper KS2 classes during class teacher's PPA time or Miss Woodall's Management time. As a Key Stage we try to maintain an even spread of support throughout the day. The support staff timetables vary where there is need.

Home/School Communication

This year, we would like to encourage parents to  write in the children’s Reading Record if they wish to communicate briefly with the class teacher. Children can then show this to their teacher during school hours. Should there be any problems or concerns regarding your child, that you don’t wish to write down, please don’t hesitate to come in and see the teacher or Miss Woodall, the Upper Key Stage 2 Leader.

Autumn Term 2018

Areas of Study:

Our three classes will be studying Europe with a focus on France and Paris in Geography this term. In Science, we will be covering Life Cycles and Evolution specifically focusing on the life cycle of plants. During R.E this term, the children will be exploring how different faiths express their beliefs. Alongside this, in PSHCE, we will be discussing Citizenship, Relationships, Personal Development and Lifestyles. Our Art will focus upon Still Life Painting. We will also continue with the learning of French.

NOTE:

In Year 5 & 6 we would like promote independence among all our children. This is a key life skill and is especially useful in preparation for moving to Secondary School. Please encourage your child to enter school  independently, organise their belongings, complete homework tasks, time manage and communicate with staff if they have a problem. We are here to help! Thank you for your continued support

Maths Homework

Children in Year 5 and 6 will be given Maths homework every week. This is to be completed at home and brought back into school the following Thursday/Friday. This homework must be completed in pencil and to the same standard as the teachers expect in the classrooms.

Mathletics

Mathletics will continue to be an integral part of the children’s homework and activities will be set regularly. For Big Maths, children also need to continue to practice their ‘learn-it’ facts and work on the quick recall of these.

Reading

We would also encourage regular reading with your child, which should be recorded in their Reading Record Book. Please click the books below for some questions you can ask your child while listening to them read. Answering questions on a text is a key skill required at the end of Upper Key Stage 2, please encourage your child to practise this at home.

We will continue to reward the children with merits for reading three times a week at home and having their reading record books signed. Thank you for your support,
